Where's the Cheese?

Where's the Cheese?
Oil, Still life
7x5 oil on gesso board
$45.00
All four of these items were from the great attic finds of 2012! The cup and the little platter are both Hall. The knife has a bakelite handle, which I just loved for the color. And the bottle is just something I picked up for the fun of having a roundish bottle! And too, I have a lot of bottles I think. I like glass and old pottery apparently. We just took four boxes to the dump and four to the thrift store, so I'm not keeping everything!

Enjoy.

Now Serving: Pod!

Now Serving: Pod!
Still life oil
8x10 oil on gesso board
$125.00
We have been cleaning out our attic, and boy what a treasure trove of goodies have we found! This is the first of many still lifes in the future which will feature attic finds. This is multi generational really. The glassware is from the thirties, and the greenish yellow plates are from the fifties. The vase is from the eighties and the pod is from the 2000's.  Oh and the fabrics are from the nineties. This was a pleasure to find (again), and to look at as it was being painted. And of course, to paint!

Enjoy.

Still Life - Yellow Study

Still Life - Yellow Study
8x8 oil on gesso board
$50.00
This is called Yellow Study as a yellow is used in every part in this piece. Yes, if you look closely you can see the yellow in the cloth on the bottom. I love the color yellow and really had fun painting this. I had forgotten I had the trivet and the little mug. Which is really a pitcher, but I wanted a cup or mug in the painting, so off with it's spout!

Enjoy.

Fruit Flavored Bottles

Fruit Flavored Bottles
Still Life
oil on canvas board
$45.00
A still life with the colors of candy was the thought today. If you can't eat it you can at least look at something pretty to take your mind off it. Well, sorta! But think lollipops, gum, and suckers and those hard candies that are sweet and the ones that are sour. Yum! Or think healthy and think oranges and strawberries, blueberries or grapes. Yum again.

Enjoy!

Flowers for a Gray Day

Flowers for a Gray Day
Still Life
Oil on canvas board
$45.00
This is a little still life I put together this morning after a particularly rough time of storms last night. We have had nothing but rain and gray skies for about three weeks now, and it is just getting, well boring. So I set up this still life to cheer me up! Looking at these bright colors while I painted and using those bright colors on the brush, was just so enlivening. I was quite cheerful during the whole process.

Enjoy!!

Working in the Smithy

Working in the Smithy
10"x8" oil on gesso board
Impressionist figurative oil painting
$125.00
This is a painting that reveals our family's love of things 18th century. We have visited most of the forts and restored villages along the eastern seaboard over the years. Many a smith have we witnessed working the hot metal and enjoying his craft. This is always one of the fun things to watch, no matter where we go.

I mostly mixed my paints on my palette this time, just for the fun of the change. There were times when I added the color straight on, but that's to be expected, I think.

Enjoy.

Rocky Branch Falls

Rocky Branch Falls
5x7 oil on gesso board
impressionist landscape
$85.00
This was a cool crisp day in the mountains. The light from the yellow leaves above was reflecting into the water just as it was whirl pooling down into the falls. The water looked oh, so cold! The big rock looked so warm where the sun was hitting it, but then dropped into darkest cold shadow underneath. Back behind the little rocks was a forest set to transform from fall to winter at the slightest drop of temperature. The mossy rock in front was so soft and warm in the sunshine.

Enjoy.
